CDS Monarch and New York State Homes and Community Renewal Announce grand opening of senior living community

Tuesday, April 21, 2015 – CDS Monarch and New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) today announced the grand opening of CDS Monarch’s second Senior Living community. The 50-unit affordable development offers apartments for seniors, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and veterans over age 55.

The $10.8 million development includes 46 one-bedroom and four two-bedroom units. Five units are fully accessible for persons with physical disabilities, two units are fully adapted for persons with visual or hearing disabilities, and all other units are adaptable. Fifteen units have been set aside for seniors with physical or developmental disabilities. Residents have access to CDS Monarch’s Wolf Life Transitions Center located on the neighboring property, which includes a therapeutic aquatics and fitness center, restaurant, and a variety of recreation therapies, such as art and music.

Darryl C. Towns, Commisioner/CEO of New York State Homes and Community Renewal said, “HCR is proud to work with CDS Monarch, OPWDD, and all the partners on another development that creates opportunities for seniors, veterans, and people with developmental disabilities to live independently in quality, affordable homes. Under Governor Cuomo’s leadership, New York State is committed to investing in projects that build community and provide services people need to live fulfilling, productive lives. Congratulations to all the residents who will be able to take advantage of all CDS Monarch has to offer.”

The CDS Monarch Senior Living project is created in partnership with HCR, the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), the Federal Home Loan Bank, Monroe County HOME, and The Wolf Foundation. Additionally, OPWDD will provide rental assistance and support services for the 10 units serving people with developmental disabilities.
Support services will include vocational opportunities and training and access to physical and wellness activities. CDS Monarch will coordinate and provide services to these populations and to any resident who requires assistance to secure gainful employment, age-in-place, and improve their quality of life.

“The addition of this second senior living facility stands as further exemplification of our mission and vision as we provide affordable, quality housing to those seniors who need it,” Sankar Sewnauth, CDS Monarch President/CEO said. “CDS Monarch Senior Living will offer affordable housing where people of all abilities can age in a place while pursuing their dreams. We are proud to be able to offer this opportunity to the residents of Webster and the surrounding areas.”

“Under the leadership of Governor Cuomo, we are pleased to provide individuals with developmental disabilities services and supports in settings that advance opportunities for them to be contributing members of their communities,” said OPWDD Acting Commissioner Kerry A. Delaney. “The addition of new housing opportunities for people with developmental disabilities puts us one step closer to our goal of helping every individual we serve achieve full community integration with the proper supports and services.”

CDS Monarch assists people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, veterans, and seniors to live and thrive in their communities, by delivering high-quality, personalized life planning and transition support.
