CDS Monarch and New York State Homes and Community Renewal Announce grand opening of senior living community

Tuesday, April 21, 2015 – CDS Monarch and New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) today announced the grand opening of CDS Monarch’s second Senior Living community. The 50-unit affordable development offers apartments for seniors, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and veterans over age 55.

The $10.8 million development includes 46 one-bedroom and four two-bedroom units. Five units are fully accessible for persons with physical disabilities, two units are fully adapted for persons with visual or hearing disabilities, and all other units are adaptable. Fifteen units have been set aside for seniors with physical or developmental disabilities. Residents have access to CDS Monarch’s Wolf Life Transitions Center located on the neighboring property, which includes a therapeutic aquatics and fitness center, restaurant, and a variety of recreation therapies, such as art and music.

The CDS Monarch Senior Living project is created in partnership with HCR, the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), the Federal Home Loan Bank, Monroe County HOME, and The Wolf Foundation. Additionally, OPWDD will provide rental assistance and support services for the 10 units serving people with developmental disabilities.
Support services will include vocational opportunities and training and access to physical and wellness activities. CDS Monarch will coordinate and provide services to these populations and to any resident who requires assistance to secure gainful employment, age-in-place, and improve their quality of life.

New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) consists of all the State’s major housing and community renewal agencies, including the Affordable Housing Corporation, the Division of Housing and Community Renewal, the Housing Finance Agency, State of New York Mortgage Agency, Housing Trust Fund Corporation and others. In 2014, HCR set an agency record by financing the creation or preservation of 9,363 affordable housing units, including affordable homeownership opportunities for more than one thousand families.
